Picking a location for family photos

Believe me, I understand - picking a location for family photos can be tough! I often find that clients think they need a really special location - after all, taking family photos is a special occasion! Beaches, scenic trails, mountain tops - these types of locations all work beautifully, but aren't actually REQUIRED to get great photos.

If you take a moment to think about what you want your photos to look like in the end, you might find that your own home, a nearby park, the streets around your home, or a local school can work really well! The examples below illustrate various looks and provide options to help you achieve the result you want:

AROUND THE HOUSE

Front porches, couches with good light, front lawns - they all work!

A WALL BACKDROP

Garage doors, an interesting doorway, brick walls, fences - these backdrops don't sound fancy, but they make for simple, stylish backdrops that look great framed in your home and on holiday cards.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

A local park or outdoor space is classic and always works - just keep in mind whether you want a more neutral beige background (dried grass, for example) or lush and green, because different locations will give a different feel.
